婚約会見
2010年11月16日、この日はケイトとウィリアムにとって記念すべき一日になりました。
二人揃って、公の場で婚約発表をしたのです。
交際期間中の二人は、なるべく目立たないような振舞いを心がけてきました。
それまでメディアを賑わせたツーショットの写真は、いずれもイベント会場などで二人が偶然一緒にいるところをパパラッチされたものです。
しかし今回は、メディアの前で、堂々と二人の関係をアピールしたのです。
二人の交際が始まって8年、ケイトは、もうこれ以上ウィリアムに遠慮する必要はなくなりました。
また、正式にウィリアムの婚約者となったことで、ケイトはそれ以降、王室によって守られる存在になったのです。
ウィリアムがケイトを未来の妻に迎えるに当たり、最も大切だったことは、「母の二の舞を踏ませない」ことでした。
ウィリアムの母・故ダイアナ妃は、夫チャールズと十分な交際を経ず、王室のしきたりについて何も知らないまま、王室に嫁ぎました。
その結果、ダイアナ妃は王室の生活に全く馴染むことができなかったのです。
ウィリアムは、ケイトとじっくり愛を育んだだけでなく、彼女が王族としての生活に戸惑わないように、王室行事に慣れていく時間を十分に取りました。
ゆっくりと着実に王族と交流を深めてきたケイトには、この時、既に王族らしい十分な風格が漂っていました。

The Engagement Announcement
16th November 2010 became a memorable day for Kate and William.
They have announced the engagement in public.
