現在、英国王位継承順位第1位にあるのは、ケイトの義父、チャールズ皇太子です。

正式には、「第21代ウェールズ公」といい、「イギリス陸海空軍元帥」という肩書もあります。

チャールズは英国君主の長男として、厳しく育てられました。

そのため、チャールズは未来の国王としての思想をしっかりと身につけて成長しました。

チャールズは、結婚と恋愛を全くの別物と考えていました。

結婚とは愛情とは関係なく、家族を築くために必要なことと考え、未来の妻・ダイアナに対しても、「妻として相応しい女性」という以外の感情を持つことはなかったのです。

チャールズを愛情面で満たしていたのは、ダイアナよりもずっと前から恋仲にあった、カミラでした。

逆に言うと、チャールズは、カミラへの永遠の愛を貫いたロマンチストなのかも知れません。

1981年に結婚した妻・ダイアナは、夫とロマンティックな関係を築くことを願い、また夫の愛情を心から必要としていました。

しかし、根本的な価値観の違いで、チャールズとダイアナはうまくいくことがなく、離婚します。

その後2005年に、カミラと再婚しました。

妻を愛することなく愛人との関係を貫いたチャールズは、未来の国王として相応しくないとまで言われました。

ただ、長男ウィリアムの妻、キャサリンのことはとても気に入っており、円満な親子関係を築いているようです。

Then he got re-married with Camilla in 2005.

It is said that Charles who has kept the relationship with the mistress without loving his wife is not appropriate as a king of the future.

However, he likes the eldest son William's wife, Catherine, and seems to have a good relationship as a parent.
