ケイトとウィリアムは2001年9月に出会いましたが、初めて二人の仲が取り沙汰されたのは、それから1年以上が経ち、ケイトとウィリアムを含めた4人の学生がフラットシェアをするようになってからです。

本格的な恋愛に発展したのは、2003年6月に行われたケイトの誕生日パーティーであったとも言われ、またそれ以前の2002年4月、ケイトがモデルとして登場したチャリティ・ファッションショーで、VIP席をウィリアムが陣取り、ランウェイを歩くケイトに一目ぼれした、という噂もあります。

いずれにしても、大学生活の2年目辺りから、恋愛感情が加速していったようです。

ケイトとウィリアムには様々な共通点があり、また趣味も似ています。

二人とも郊外で生まれ育ち、一流のパブリックスクールを卒業していたので、王族と庶民という違いこそあっても、似たような成長期を過ごしてきました。

また、スポーツを趣味にしているのも重要な共通点で、このようなことから、常に楽しくリラックスして過ごすことができたのでしょう。

二人は交流の中で互いを心から必要な相手だという確信を徐々に深め、最高のパートナーになったのだと思います。
