キャサリンの両親は、父マイケル・ミドルトンと、母キャロルです。

マイケルとキャロルは、同じ英国航空に勤務しており、そこで知り合い、数年の交際を経て結婚しました。

キャロルは、労働者階級から中流階級の人間になり、そのことでより一層、より高い身分への憧れを強くしていきます。

キャロルが自分より身分の高い素敵な男性と結婚したこと、また二人で立ち上げたビジネスで大成功を収め、財を成したことで、子供たちの教育に力を注ぐようになります。

ケイトが上流階級の子供たちが通う学校に入学し、洗練されたレディになったのも、キャロルの熱意があったからなのです。

しかし、ミドルトン夫妻の最も素晴らしいところは、娘たちの教育に巨額を投じたことではなく、素晴らしい人間性を持つことに教育の重点を置いたところです。

ミドルトン夫妻は子供たちに、上流階級のマナーを身に付けることを願っただけでなく、活発で好奇心に満ち溢れ、人として誠実であることを何よりも望んでいました。
