2005年はケイトとウィリアムにとって新たな船出となりました。

それまで4年間の大学生活、また3年間のフラットシェアの生活を共にした二人ですが、ついに大学卒業の時期を迎えたのです。

そして、そこから先は結婚するまで、別々の道を歩むことになります。

卒業式を迎える少し前、二人は知人の結婚式に揃って出席しました。

公の場でのツーショットは、これが初めてです。

そして卒業後、ウィリアムは王族としての仕事や陸軍での生活をする一方、ケイトはパパラッチに悩まされながらも何とかアパレルメーカー「ジグソー」に就職し、ファッション業界で自分の能力を発揮していました。

もっとも、ケイトにとって、卒業をして最初の年は、試練の年でもあったようです。

王族ではないケイトは、王室の公式行事に呼ばれることもなく、また誰かに警護される身分でもなかったため、常にパパラッチに悩まされながらも自分の身は自分で守っていかなくてはなりませんでした。

就職も、マスコミや王族との関係を加味しながら条件に合う仕事を探していましたが、簡単には就職できなかったのです。

しかし、ウィリアムは恋人への気遣いを決して忘れませんでした。

休暇には必ずケイトを二人きりになれる場所に連れ出し、可能な限りケイトに尽くしました。

二人は、どんなに難しい立場でも献身的な愛を貫き、離れている時も互いを信じ、それぞれの生活に打ち込んでいたのです。
