キャサリンとの年月
ウィリアムがキャサリンに出会ったのは、セント・アンドルーズに入学した2001年のことです。
しかし、前述通り（「セント・アンドルーズ初年」参照）ウィリアムはスキャンダルを恐れ、目立たないように一人自室にこもって過ごすことが多く、すぐにほかの学生の輪に入ることはできませんでした。
しかし、同じ寮で生活するウィリアムとキャサリンは、寮内で頻繁に顔を合わせているうちに親しくなり、やがて同じグループの友人と行動するようになっていったのです。
そして大学生活2年目、2002年からは、キャサリンとそのほかの友人の計4人と、フラットシェアの生活を始めました。
この時、同じフラットで二人がどのように生活していたのか、友人たちは決して口にせず、二人のプライバシーを守りました。
ウィリアムとケイトの仲は、温かく信頼のおける友人たちのお陰で、親密さを増していったのです。
大学を卒業すると、二人は出会って以来、初めて離れて生活することになりました。
そのことでキャサリンの心は不安定になり、またキャサリンがマスコミ対応などに苦労して精神的に落ち込み、お互いにとって大変な時期を過ごしたこともありました。
しかしウィリアムは、二度と母と同じ悲劇を繰り返さないためにもじっくり愛を育む時間を持ち、キャサリンに時間をかけて王室での生活伝えていき、成熟した交際期間を経て結婚するに至ったのです。

The Years with Catherine
Prince William met Catherine in 2001 when he entered University of St Andrews.
However, as William was afraid of scandals, he had spent most of his time at his room and it was difficult for him to immediately join other students.
However, William frequently met Catherine who lived in the same dorm, became friends with her and join friends of the same group.
In the 2nd year of university life in 2002, he started to share a flat with 4 friends, including Catherine and other friends.

The relationship between William and Kate became intimate gradually thanks to the trustworthiness of their friends.
After graduation from university, they have lived separately for the first time since they met.
It made Catherine become unstable, also she felt depressed, struggling to manage mass media, which was a difficult time for both of them.
However, William had a sufficient length of time to have a relationship in order not to repeat the same tragedy as his mother. He took time to tell her the life in the royal family, and then they got married after a long-term dating relationship.
